Project Overview

GCG provides the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) with survey and base plan development services. One of GCG’s survey crews completed a detailed existing conditions survey of Merrill Road in Pittsfield, MA of approximately 8,200 linear feet. The survey included data collection of all existing conditions within the right of way, planimetric railroad track survey, and location of underground utilities. For this project, railroad tracks ran parallel with Merrill Road and were within the scope of detail to be located. The railroad tracks were located by use of photogrammetric means through using an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS Drone). This allowed the field crew to not need to set foot on the railroad property while achieving great accuracy. GCG office personnel created base plans from this field data. The base plans included baselines, accurate locations of right of ways, abutters, utilities, and all information collected by the survey crew. Research was performed to collect the city layouts for each road, as well as all deeds and plans for abutting properties. Property lines were constructed and placed based on record plans and deeds.
