Client

City of Waltham, MA

Project Overview

GCG provided the City of Waltham with survey, design, bidding, and construction administration services for the Second Avenue and Bear Hill Road Water Main Replacement Project. This project called for the replacement of over 8,000 feet of 10-inch cast iron water main. These are two major industrial streets in the City and required extensive traffic coordination, temporary bypass planning, and night work. This project was initiated as part of the MWRA’s Local Pipeline Assistance Program.

The project consisted of the design of the following: Abandonment or removal of unlined 10” cast iron water main, replacement with new 12-inch cement lined ductile iron water main, replacement of all services, installation of new gate valves and hydrants, and trench paving. Temporary bypass piping (8-inch) was used to maintain service for the industrial customers along with maintaining adequate supply for fire protection during construction.
